Chapter 4: I'm Here to Take Your Lives

It's said that when a new leader takes office, they make drastic changes. For Chelsea, upon her return to the Bromley Group, the first change came swiftly and fiercely.

The management underwent a major shake-up, with dozens of executives being reassigned. Among them were some old-timers and even board members, including those who attempted to assert dominance over Chelsea under Versta and Stuart's leadership.

Versta's office was packed with people early in the morning and was a mess. "I've been at the Bromley Group for years! Even if I haven't accomplished much, I've worked hard! Why am I being dismissed? The Bromley family owes me an explanation! So you and your niece have reconciled, and now I'm the sacrifice? Why?"

Others chimed in, shouting for answers, their faces red with anger, spittle flying. Gone was the usual dignified demeanor; now they showed their true, ugly faces.

Versta's head throbbed from the noise. "Everyone, please calm down, calm down..."

In the corner, Stuart was playing with a new string of prayer beads, looking completely indifferent. As long as his position as vice chairman was secure, he didn’t care who else got cut.

Versta tried his best to comfort his old colleagues, but inwardly, he was calm. As long as his chairmanship remained unaffected and his interests were secure, the changes below didn't bother him. In fact, Chelsea had shown him the list of personnel changes first, and they had discussed it.

"Uncle, the Bromley Group is not what it used to be. We can't afford dead weight anymore. I've nearly exhausted my savings trying to save the company. If we let these freeloaders continue to drain our resources, we'll have to start selling properties. I know you and Uncle Stuart recently acquired a plot in the northern suburbs for a golf course..."

When it comes to personal interests, everything changes. Versta’s calm expression instantly tensed. He slapped the list decisively—"Fire them! They have to go!"

No more freeloaders!

Chelsea didn’t bother arguing with the freeloaders. Leaving the company, she headed straight home.

The Bromley family Estate, also known as the Rose Garden, was originally a rose park. Since Chelsea and her mother loved roses, her dad Dante bought the land and built a mansion for the family.

Three years had passed since Chelsea last visited, and she felt a bit nervous—was it the fear of returning home?

For three years, she had been reckless for love. Would her parents blame her as they watched from Heaven?

The roses in Bromley were in full bloom. The climate in Veloria was colder, and when she left Sullivan Villa, the roses hadn’t yet bloomed.

Chelsea's eyes darkened at the thought of that man. Her heart still ached, but she had decided to leave and must try to let go.

As the car drove into the estate, Chelsea couldn’t wait to see the roses. However, when she got out of the car, she found that the roses her father had planted were gone, replaced by tulips and overgrown with weeds.

A surge of anger rushed through her. It was bad enough they had taken over her home, but to destroy her rose garden?

Those shameless people, did they really think she was dead?

Laughter suddenly reached her ears. Chelsea turned to see two girls walking out, chatting and laughing, each holding onto a man’s arm. The woman leading the group, in a white lace dress with a diamond crown hairpin, leaned up to kiss her partner right on the lips.

The man, noticing Chelsea from a distance, pushed Thea away, his face turning pale as he nearly fell down the steps. He pointed at Chelsea, his voice trembling, "Chels... Chelsea!"

The other three turned to look. Seeing Chelsea, they were equally shocked, covering their mouths in disbelief. Thea screamed, "Are you a person or a ghost?"

Chelsea stood amidst the tulips, her white dress fluttering, eyes cold, her red lips curling in a mocking smile. Her voice was chilling and sinister.

"Those who have done nothing wrong fear no ghosts. I’m here to take your lives, Noah, Thea. Are you ready?"
