Chapter 4: Exclusion

PRADO had a large office block.

Chloe went out, stretched her body to relax. Then she went straight to tea room, placing coffee and milk tea on a plate, then walked back to office, without noticing Shawn, in nearby corridor, heading to her direction.

Shawn worried about Chloe as this was her first day at work, so he decided to see her in person. But he didn’t expect this...

Chloe did not need so many drinks? Did her colleges bully her for her unexpected presence?

He looked glum. He decided to go to design department right away. How dare they? Bloody hell!

“Your coffee, your milk tea……” After distributing drinks, Chloe returned back to her seat. As soon as she sat down, she heard Mandy exclaimed.

“Oh my goodness? What is this? Coffee? Instant coffee?” Mandy exaggerated dislikes for her coffee, “I never drink instant coffee, hand-made coffee only!” When saying this, she got mad, and deliberately dropped her coffee to the ground near Chloe.

Crack!

The coffee cup was broken into pieces, and coffee splashed onto Chloe’s clothes.

“Oh no! Sorry, let me wipe your clothes.” Mandy said, and walked to Chloe holding a cup of water. She meant to twist her feet and poured water into Chloe’s clothes when Chloe wasn’t noticing.

Chloe’s clothes were wet. She did not feel good. Mandy was pleased to see this, and an evil smile showed on her face. And she pretended to be sorry, apologizing, “Sorry, Chloe, I didn’t hold the cup. How about change your clothes?”

Chloe frowned, and left without saying nothing.

Sure Chloe left, Mandy burst out laugh immediately. “Look how pathetic she is. What an eyesore!”

“Mandy. Don’t cross the line.” said Emily. She disliked Chloe either, but she thought pouring water was too much.

“It doesn’t matter. She is not that wealthy anymore. I am not afraid of her.” Mandy said, rolling her eyes.

“Mandy, don’t go that far.” Edith shook her head. Then they gossiped for a while before continuing their work. The coffee stains on the ground was so obvious.

“What happened to your clothes?” When Chloe walked out of the office, she came across Shawn. Shawn looked serious at seeing this.

“Just by accident.” Chloe said calmly.

Shawn frowned. He did not ask Chloe, and took her into elevator to the top floor. Then he offered her clean clothes to change. Chloe took over the clothes.

What? Chloe thought, why he had women clothes? Who were these clothes for? After she changed, she asked, “Did the boss of PRADO being so caring to every employee?”

“Uh-huh.” Shawn’s only answer. But his eyes turned darkened.

“You are a busy man.” Chloe giggled, and she left by elevator.

She did not want to be with him, because every time she saw her, she felt unease.

Shawn saw Chloe go away, with a complicated mood. He came to the door side of design department just now, and he heard those satire words. He felt annoyed, and he kept asking himself was it a right choice for Chloe to work here.

In fact, when he saw Chloe buying drinks, he knew Chloe was not having a good day. But now Chloe had been in PRADO, it made no sense for Chloe to stay here only one day and leave. It would better to stay. And he would find out who did this to Chloe.

Soon Shawn came to design department with his assistant, when Chloe was mopping the stains on the floor while other people just watching and sneering.

BANG!

The door was open. Shawn entered madly, followed by his assistant Leo.

“What happened?” Shawn gazed at the coffee stains along with broken glass on the ground.

Before Chloe looked up, her fingers were cut by the broken glass, left bloodstain on the carpet.

“Does PRADO has no cleaner? Why do you ask a designer to clean up.” Shawn lashed out, staring the rest staff.

Mandy and other people were scared to death, and just kept in silence.

“Mr. Cloud, I offered to help cleaning this. It is not a big deal.” Chloe said, her voice sounded like nothing serious had happened.

“I hire a designer in this department, not cleaner!” Shawn spoke out, word by word, trying hard to suppress anger.

Chloe didn’t respond. Others were still in panic, and looked anxious, but Shawn didn’t care.

Instead, he noticed Chloe’s table, worn out and shaky in the most unfavorable place. It was out of his expectation that others would treat Chloe so badly. But he could not help her in the company openly.

“Explain this.” He looked that table.

“Mr. Cloud, it is for Chloe as a temporary table due to we did not have other tables……” Edith apologized.

“Is it PRODO so humble that it could not afford an office table?” Shawn raised his voice and criticized.

Edith frightened, trembling. She knew that Shawn got mad.

And Shawn continued, “Leo, write down this, I wanna see a new one this afternoon.” His voice was cold and with obvious resentment.

“Got it!” Leo nodded.

Edith was embarrassed and yet had to smile. She said, “Sorry. It is our fault. We didn’t consider……”

“Enough.” Shawn waved hands to stop Edith. Then he turned to Chloe, “You don’t have work?”

Chloe did not expect his response to be so. Before she came out with an excuse, Shawn continued saying, “You will be responsible to design a dress for PRADO’s fashion show in days. If you can’t handle this, leave then. PRADO does not need a idle designer.” Shawn said and glanced at them, then he left.
