THE NEXT MORNING, I don’t feel like coming to school because of what happened last night at the mating ceremony. And I don’t want to see Felix either. I’m ashamed to see him. But the fact that I don’t want to skip school just because of those reasons made me get up from the bed and do my morning routine. After I wore my usual attire to school, I took my backpack then tied my hair in a ponytail before I finally left my room.
I quickly entered the kitchen and prepared our breakfast. I need to hurry or else I can’t eat anything this morning. As I was busy cooking eggs, I took bread to my mouth. The time’s running and if father sees me cooking, I’m dead. I was about to finish making coffee when I heard a loud slam behind me.
“IRIS! I told you, I don’t want to see you in the morning,” father said.
With my trembling hands, I quickly put his cup of coffee on the table and took my backpack on the chair but father didn’t let me. He held my shoulder and pushed me on the fridge. His raging eyes met mine and I saw how mad he was.
“I told you to wake up earlier so you can prepare our breakfast before I see your face!” he snarled. His claws started digging through my skin and I winced in pain.
“F-father! I’m sorry… This will never happen again!” I cried and tried to get away from his grip but he was too strong.
He lifted up his hand and was about to slap me, I closed my eyes and ready myself with the blow of it but…
“Dad! Put her down! You’re hurting her!” Claudia, my eldest sister, stopped father.
“This… brat is talking back at me! She deserved a slap!”
“Dad!” Claudia insisted then she walked towards us and hold father’s hand.
I thought he would release me peacefully after Claudia interrupted, but instead he pushed me to the ground. “Finish your job before leaving the house. I’m feeding you even though you are not my daughter, remember that!” father said then left.
I bit my lower lip as I nodded and stood up with my knees wobbling in fear. I wiped my tears away as I took plates to arrange the table.
“Iris, you can go now. I'll finish it for you. Dad might get mad if he went back and sees you,” Claudia said.
“But…”
“No buts, just go. And I’m sorry that Dad hurted you,” she added.”
I lowered my head and nodded. “Thank you, Claudia.”
“Don’t worry, I will talk to Dad, okay?”
I just smiled at her instead of answering. If not because of Claudia, I would probably be dead by now. She was my savior in this house. However, even though she keeps on talking to her Dad, to not hurt me, he still always did.
After going out of the house, I took a deep breath and covered my shoulder with my backpack. There’s a stain of blood from my wound that father created and I don’t want everyone to see this.
Father always told me to be grateful that he still keeps me inside of his house even though I am not his daughter. And I am. When Mom died, I thought father would give me to our relatives but that didn’t happen, he kept me up until now. Maybe the reason was because he pitied me and also he loves me. I grew up with him, in his house and I believe he at least pity me…
When I entered the gate of our university, I lowered my head to avoid anyone’s gaze. I don’t know if they still care about what happened last night but I want to be careful not to be noticed.
However, even after trying hard, someone stood beside me and started walking along with me. My heart beats faster as I see a man’s shoes and so I quickly look up to see who it is. My eyes widened to see Felix. He was looking at me with his cold eyes. Is he going to bully me again? This morning?
“F-felix, I…”
“From now on, you have to always be with me so no one can bully you,” he said.
My mouth gaped at what he said. “What? I mean, I can’t understand…”
“You know that we’re mates, right? I know you know,” he answered. The way he talks to me, it feels like he doesn’t care at all.
“Yeah… but I thought you wanted to reject me…”
“Who says that?” he arched his brow.
“Well, you ignored me. I thought you didn’t want me to be your mate…” I answered in a low tone. I don’t want anyone to hear what I said.
Felix did not answer, instead he took my hand and I winced in surprise because of what he did. His warm large hand wrapped my small hand. Now everyone is looking at us with surprise. Who wouldn’t be surprised? I am with the Alpha’s son who used to bully me and now he’s holding my hand!
“Felix, please stop holding my hand, they’re looking at us,” I mumbled as I hide my face.
“Let them.”
I know how crimson red my cheeks are right now. His warm hands that are holding mine made my heart beat so fast. Last night when Felix ignored me at the mating ceremony, I thought he also declined me but maybe that was because he hadn't processed the fact that we’re mates.
I wanted to call Sunshine to tell her that our mate has finally accepted us, but she’s still unresponsive. I can’t even smell and feel the connection between me and Felix right now. If he didn’t ignore me last night then it wouldn’t be this way. Sunshine will not fall silent.
While we were walking our way to our classrooms, we were holding hands but I lowered my head to avoid everyone’s gazes. Everyone is murmuring around but no one dared to ask…
I thought no one will do until… We were about to enter the building when Brittany stopped in front of us with her brow arching followed by Asher who was still buttoning his white polo shirt. I lowered my head to avoid their eyes as I pulled my hand away from Felix’s hand but he gripped it tighter.
“What the hell, Felix? So you’re also mated with that poor omega she-wolf?” Brittany said and I heard her scoff. Her voice seemed like a microphone, everyone heard her.
I still lower my head down, I don’t want to see them looking at me with disgust or what… Because even I, I can’t believe this was happening. I thought I’ll just have a normal mate, now I’m torn between!
“I thought father was just bluffing about what you did last night. And now that I saw you two holding hands, it seemed like what he said was true. Are you going to accept her as your mate?” Asher asked.
I tried to pull my hands again but Felix held my hand tighter. “Yes! Why not? I believe there’s nothing wrong with it. The Moon Goddess brought it up herself. In our law, there’s nothing wrong with being mates with an omega, right?”
What’s wrong with Felix? Why did he change his mind?
