When I arrived at the kindergarten, the event had already started.

The playground was filled with the mixed shouts of adults and children.

"Ms. Heath, what’s the competition now? The family race hasn’t started yet, has it?"

"This is the family race."

Due to an unexpected meeting at work, I was late for my son Lynley’s parent-child activity.

Keith Barber had called me twice, and he didn’t sound pleased.

He said, "Lesley Mitchell, if you can't be on time, then don't bother coming at all."

Keith seemed to have forgotten that ever since Lynley started kindergarten, I’ve been the one attending most of his events.

As for Keith, he was either too busy with work or away on business trips.

This time, when he surprisingly decided to join Lynley for the parent-child event, I was momentarily shocked, thinking he wanted to make things right with us.

But when I saw the scene before me, I realized Keith never had any intention of mending our relationship.

Instead, he used this event as an opportunity to play the role of a loving husband with his first love.

On the playground, Keith had swapped his usual suit for sportswear.

He and Acelynn Norris had a balloon squeezed between their heads, moving from one end to the other.

The balloon nearly fell, and Keith quickly reached out to steady her by the waist, pulling her closer to him.

At the finish line, Lynley stood with his little face flushed, cheering, "Daddy, Mommy, keep it up!"

Compared to the cheering crowd, I was eerily silent.

Their team won first place, and Lynley joyfully leaped into Keith’s arms.

Keith bent down to lift him, whispering something to him.

Acelynn smiled warmly as she wiped the sweat from Keith’s forehead, and then Lynley pointed at Acelynn’s face.

The next second, Keith kissed Acelynn on the cheek.

Lynley clapped his hands, laughing.

Acelynn shyly lowered her head, while Keith gazed at her with a a beaming smile.

The scene before me was a perfect picture of a family of three.
