Musical prodigy, 17-year-old, Ryker Rathaway, has been playing from the young age of seven. He has also claimed to hear music coming from people since he was born. At first, he thought everyone could hear the music coming from people but once he started telling people he realized it wasn’t normal. His mother encouraged his musical ability well his father found it pointless and a dead-end job. At ten years old Ryker loses his mother in a car crash, this sends his father into a spiral, he begins to think his son is crazy when he claims he heard a haunting death song coming from his mother as they sit trapped in a flipped car on the side of the highway and every day since then his father’s death song has been getting louder. His father attempts to seek medical help for Ryker despite him being a medical anomaly and posing no threat to himself or others, so he sends him away to private school so he doesn’t have to see him or be reminded of what he’s lost. Ryker feels nobody appreciates or wants him anymore and that was why he was sent away despite being a part of the orchestra at Copper Cove Academy in Blue Hill, Nebraska. 16-year-old Porter Hollow is the new kid, at Copper Cove Academy, he’s fitting in, has joined the football team as a forward but he still feels something is missing. One day he hears someone playing the piano in one of the private music rooms, he follows the music and meets Ryker. Porter is entranced by Ryker’s playing. An unusual relationship forms between the two when Ryker realizes he can’t hear anything coming from Porter. Everything is silent, like after his mother’s heart stopped beating but Porter is very much alive. So, why does Ryker only hear silence? Will Ryker find something more in this strange anomaly in his own experience of the world? Will Porter find what he felt was missing?
