Damon stood in front of the fireplace with a glass of bourbon in hand. He swirled the drink in the glass while staring unfocused at the flames.
His mind should be occupied by the disaster that is his brother, finding a way to defeat Klaus, and finally win Elena's heart.
However, none of those things even crossed his mind. It has been a while for him since he felt this way: like he wanted to hunt.
Damon Salvatore was a proud Vampire, always has been, so why hasn't he been in touch with his more animalistic side lately?
Elena.
She has become the center of his universe. She was his sun and he felt trapped in her orbit. They have bonded in the time his brother was away. She has come to depend on him, and he fancied himself in love with her.
But whatever good he felt for her was always tainted with guilt. She was his brother's girl, the Brother who sacrificed himself to save his life, she was still in love with Stefan, and she was just too good.
Daniella
Her face just flashed before his eyes. He wasn't sure why. He couldn't understand why he noticed her, like her mere presence called to him. She wasn't really the type he would go for, but he couldn't deny how beautiful she looked while laughing with Gilbert.
Why would she even find the Gilbert kid funny?
He snorted at the question in his mind and took a sip from his drink.
Damon had watched her. He listened to every word exchanged during her stay at the grill. And if at first he thought it wasn't the right time, Bonnie provided him with the perfect excuse to stalk the girl to his heart content.
The witch was petrified. She said she couldn't see a thing, but the energy Daniella had was darker than anything she had ever felt. She said it was worse than that of a vampire.
They pretty much felt like death to the witch, and for the life of him, he couldn't understand what could possibly feel worse than that.
She just looked so normal to him, average, ordinary, and he couldn't see anything that could be special to terrify the witch like that.
She is so ordinary so why am I so intrigued?
Damon scowled and gulped his drink in one go. The only thing he should be thinking about concerning the new girl is whether she presented a threat or not.
He remembered following her to her house, which looked very normal.
A two-storey house with a white fence, nice porch, and a garden. It was very normal just like her.
Damon knew her mother was in the house with her, but the two didn't exchange words, nothing he could hear at least.
When he used a tree opposite her room, he could see her sit in her bed, reading a book, that didn't seem to fit the person she seemed to be.
The Raven.
Damon knew it all too well, one of his all time favorites for Edgar Allan Poe.
He could see the irony in this with him turning into a crow and all.
He stayed for a little while longer, watching and waiting. It was a little after midnight when he saw Daniella place the book on her nightstand, turn off the light, and slid down her bed.
It was only then that Damon had decided to leave. He returned to the boarding house with his mind all over the place, that even his unwanted houseguest didn't bother him.

"So, what was wrong with Bonnie yesterday?" She asked Jeremy with a tilted head and a confused voice.
Her second day in school has gone in a blur of classes. Some she enjoyed while others she didn't. When she was around Jeremy before first period she met the others as well, but for some reason they seemed tense around. Bonnie left the hallway all together.
"What do you mean?" Jeremy didn't give an answer. He wasn't sure how he would explain Bonnie's behavior.
They already suspected that Danny is something not human: sinister, evil, and malicious, according to Bonnie. However, nothing felt even dark about her.
Jeremy decided to follow his heart on this one. She seemed like a good friend and that was that. Whether she was human or a flying frog, it didn't matter and he didn't care.
Daniella rolled her eyes while both of them were walking out of the school doors among the crowds of students around them.
"You know what I'm talking about. She touched me and she looked like she had seen a ghost, and then before that she didn't seem like she really liked me"
Jeremy shrugged his shoulders, "Honestly, Bonnie has been going through a lot lately, and she is super busy so don't take anything she does to heart"
Daniella unlocked her car and Jeremy was about to get inside when he heard her question. "How long have you been together?"
Her tone hinted that she already know, so Jeremy just answered her in a small whisper.
They were going to the grill again, and he had used that time to tell Danny all about Bonnie and his relationship with her.
When she parked the car and they both arrived at the Grill, they found a small table in the least crowded corner and sit there.
Jeremy scanned the place and once more Damon was sitting by the bar watching Danny intently, only sparing Jeremy a sardonic nod.
Last night when they talked about what Daniella could possibly be and why Bonnie had felt this way, Jeremy told them that he would remain around the girl.
It made sense to them.
Elena, however was the biggest restriction. So, he wasn't surprised when she argued that he should stay away from her. Damon had backed her up, he was so against him coming with her.
"The way I see it, your relationship will sort itself out. But just make sure that your heart is in the right place"
Danny's voice pulled him out of his thoughts. He had been so lost in his mind that he almost forgot she was even there. He shook his head slowly,
"Yeah, I guess you're right"
She ordered coffee while Jeremy went for food and milkshake. "I guess you should just talk to her then, it would only make sense, try and clear the air between the two of you and move from there"
"I love her you know" Jeremy admitted softly, "But lately it felt like being with her is a pressure, a stress of sort,... It's hard to explain"
He seemed to be frustrated for not finding the proper words to use. She patted his shoulder softly, and when he looked up at her, she gave him a sweet smile.
"It's okay. Everything will workout eventually"
Jeremy nodded grateful for her presence and he started eating his burgers while she had her coffee. He noticed the amount of sugar she had added to her coffee and couldn't help but comment on it.
"I like my coffee extra sweet"
She told him in a teasing tone when he asked her about the amount of sugar she had added to her coffee.
From there they fell into more boring and mundane conversations. He could see how she avoided any and all kinds of talk about her family. She also avoided talking about her previous schools. He didn't understand why, but Jeremy would pry.
She didn't look evil, nor did she behave it. It was the exact opposite: she was sweet, nice, and funny.
"Have a room for one more Gilbert?"
Jeremy was taken a back, staring at a smirking Damon Salvatore. He almost forgotten about his presence in the place.
"Damon"
Jeremy's tone was almost warning and Daniella looked at him confused. He hoped Damon didn't plan on doing something stupid.
Without waiting for a reply, Damon took a seat next to Jeremy
Without waiting for a reply, Damon took a seat next to Jeremy. He smirked at Daniella and decided to work his charm, "Damon Salvatore"
Daniella didn't know what to make of the man. He was beautiful. The perfect bad boy to break your heart.
She nodded, "Daniella Redmond"
