Asher’s POV.
I was pissed— in-fact, being pissed was an understatement.
“How could the Moon Goddess give me such a lady as my mate,” I hissed loudly, before facepalming myself.
I was sure that it was a mistake— The heavens would never have thought of giving me someone like Natalie for a mate.
I was currently in my room, walking up and down, trying hard to control my anger.
“She’s even an Omega top it all,” I groaned annoyingly before shaking my head slightly.
“No, I don’t feel bad….not at all,” I sighed, before sitting on my bed.
I was still lost in thought when a knock on my door jolted me back to reality.
“Who’s there?” I asked as loud as I could—
“It’s me, your highness…I just came to inform you that the elders are here,” The voice I recognized to belong to one of my maids came up.
My eyes widened slowly in shock… “How possible is that?”
I was shocked and surprised at the same time because I couldn’t remember fixing any meeting for today.
Groaning slightly, I stood up from the bed and exited the room— as I headed downstairs.
Walking towards the meeting room, my heart beat quickened in fear.
Fear of the unknown—
It wasn't clear to me why I felt scared, but I still tried to mask it up….
Well, I guess the reason why I felt scared was because the elders were the only one who was responsible for cautioning me without feeling scared— They have the right to do so…
It was the rule in Blue Iris City.
Opening the door slowly, I saw the elders seated with straight faces….
They all stood and greeted me with their heads bowed, waiting for me to have my seat patiently before they finally sat down.
“To what do I owe this meeting?” I asked, settling down.
They all heaved deeply, and stared at me—no one saying anything.
“I asked a question—” I said louder this time around, just incase they didn’t hear me the first time—But instead, none of them answered me.
“What the heck is going on?” I asked angrily, standing on my feet as I stared at them with bloodshot eyes.
“Your highness, we are sorry!” They all chorused, getting on their feet too with their head bowed.
“What we wanted to discuss with you just happened not quite long, so I’d suggest you calm down and listen to us,” One of elders spoke and the rest nodded, supporting what he just said.
“Okay, let’s go ahead,” I stared at them with keen interest, so I could know where the conversation was leading to—even though I was already suspicious.
“Your highness…it’s concerning your mate you rejected today,” He said, and I sighed deeply—I had thought as much, but felt I needed to hear from them first.
“So, how does that affect you all?” I asked, visibly annoyed—annoyed with the fact that they were beginning to dictate my life for me.
“It really does affect us all, we are just worried about your highness and the thought of you leading us without a mate has been haunting us for years now,” One of the elders said, and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Coupled with the fact that you’re not even getting young, so you need a mate as soon as possible,” Another elder chipped in, and bursted out in hysterical laughter.
“So then, find me a mate,” I said to them, and they quickly turned to glance at themselves in shock.
“Is anything the problem?” I asked, feigning ignorance when I noticed the shock on their faces.
“Your highness, we can’t possibly find a mate for you—it’s not possible,” They said politely, while I chuckled deeply.
“Then make it possible—since you all took it upon yourself to frustrate me upon having a mate, right?” I asked angrily, but tried hard to control myself.
“That’s not the case your highness—we’ll go and get your mate for you,” They said and stood, making attempts to leave, when I quickly turned to glance at them.
“Which mate?”
“The one you rejected earlier…we’ll bring her back and the only thing left for you to do would be to accept her,” They said, and I clenched my fists angrily.
“How dare they?”
“Why would they try to decide on how I live my life?” I asked myself, getting pissed.
“I don’t want to set my eyes on her, and I’m sure nobody would want to dare me,” I warned, and they all stared at me with an awestruck expression.
“She’s not my mate and would never be my mate! Is that clear?” I asked coldly, and I could swear that I saw the look of fear on their faces.
“Yes, your highness,” They answered, and scampered out of my presence.
“Enough is enough!” I heaved deeply, as I shut my eyes tightly to keep my heart together.
They left me in the pool of my thoughts...and my mind rummaged through different directions.
“What’s going on?”
Leading without a mate was a very difficult thing to do, as there would be no one to assist.
I knew I needed a mate in my life, and deep down in my heart— I knew what the elders told me was true and not false either—but I wouldn’t stoop so low to end up with someone who’s not from my class.
Someone who isn’t even presentable at all, and someone who the whole city has given up on.....
Maybe Natalie could turn out to be a nice person—
But then—me accepting Natalie as my mate should also be considered as an impossible tense because it would never happen.
She’s not my type and I strongly believe that it was a mistake from the heavens…
An omega—as my mate?
So impossible.....
