LESLEY'S POV

"Leave her alone!"

I pushed Trevor in front of me, hoping he would back off. But once my hands connected with his firm chest, I was pretty sure I sprained something.

"Stupid werewolf strength," I muttered, annoyed as he grabbed me by the collar and pulled me all the way over to him so that I was feeling his bad breath on my skin.

"Get out of my way, you filthy bitch," Trevor sneered in my face. From the corner of my eye, I could see his sister, Fraya, standing next to him, with a satisfied grin on her face, while Amanda was lying on the ground still crying her eyes out.

Amanda was my only friend until she dated Trevor, the almighty idiot who was trying to strangle me. Trevor was the son of Alpha Harry and our future Alpha. Amanda thought Trevor was being serious with her. Like that was ever going to happen!

Trevor's dangerous, handsome face reminded me of his filthy father, who was my uncle. Every night, I fantasized about murdering him thousands of times. In every minute of my life, I was desperate to tear him into pieces, mix his mashed flesh with color, and paint him on the wall. Oops! The "real" wallflower like he was. Right?

My parents died six years ago. My father's brother, the current Alpha, forcefully took over the pack, saying it was to protect us from other packs while my brother was still underage. He killed my brother, claiming it was an accident! Well, he forced me into the life of an Omega, with all of my Alpha genes suppressed by my uncle's Alpha command.

Amanda was crying, and I was being strangled by a guy I could easily take on, had I just had access to my Alpha blood!

"Happily, bad breath," I pressed between my teeth and did the only thing I could do. With just enough force, I poked both my fingers in his eyes! Fraya suddenly jumped in horror, screaming.

"You bitch!" Trevor grunted while he covered his eyes with his palm. But I was not done. As soon as I was out of his grip, I grabbed his hair with both hands and bent him to kick him with my knee. As soon as his face bumped into my knee with force, I could hear his nose break and smell blood dripping on my pants and shoes.

I pushed him off, smiling like a crazy person and liking the way his white shirt turned red. I might not have my Alpha blood anymore, but I was still my father's daughter, and I did not sit ideally by, while they used their power to hurt and humiliate others.

But I could not wait there to see his broken nose. We were still in school and the commotion gathered the entire school around to see what was going on.

I did not think twice. I tumbled back, grabbed my backpack, Amanda, and bolted out of there.

Amanda cried. I did my best to console her. A long while later, she fell asleep, and I snuck out of her room.

As I came downstairs, I ran into her father, Adrian.

"Thank you for sticking up for her," he whispered, sounding just as dead inside as he looked on the outside.

"It's fine," I answered with a slight smile. "How's Doris?"

Doris was Amanda's mother and Adrian's mate. She was sick, but because she was a rank three pack member, a rank system that my uncle had made up, she was not allowed to get treatment from the pack healer.

"She has good days and bad days," he answered honestly, treating me more like an adult than a teenager. "But as long as there's life, there's hope, right?" He forced his frown into a small, tired smile.

Adrian asked because he knew I would do everything in my power to help. I have been doing that for as long as I could remember. I used to follow my mother around, ask the same questions she did, and by the time I was eight, I knew every single member of the pack, their background, and their stories. Once my parents passed, I continued doing what needed to be done.

"She'll pull through, I'm sure," I answered, smiling a little more sincerely. "Besides, Tanja is coming home next week! I'll make sure she'll come by to have a look at her."

Finally, his smile turned sincere and there was a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Adrian nodded and followed me to the door, bidding me good night.

I said good night back, but there was no way in hell I was going to have a good night. Remember? I had mutilated the Alpha's son. I cannot imagine what my uncle had planned for me.
