Chapter 4 4

Big Baby 1.3k words

Kristine’s Pov

“Are you saying all of them are dead?” Noah questions sharply into the phone. The reply from the other end gets him gritting his teeth and raking his fingers through his hair.

I’m anxiously watching him, and also trying not to eavesdrop on the conversation. It’s an important call giving him updates on the latest hunters that were sent out on a mission in the east territory. A no-man’s territory. I don’t wanna eavesdrop, instead, I want him to tell me all about it when the call ends.

So I turn off my werewolf hearing senses, trying to distract myself by counting the heavy raindrops crashing to the ground and wondering how much longer it plans to rain.

Riize is asleep in my arms, and I have his little body covered with a cardigan to keep him from cold. He’s my four-year-old son, and yes, I didn’t get rid of him. There was no chance that I would have, even though I did give it some thought.

Getting rid of him will mean doing humanity a favor, considering the rogue blood in him. But he has my blood too, and that means he has a chance of not turning out to be extremely savage like the other rogues.

Noah had initially wanted me to get rid of him; he pressured me a lot too. But after seeing how depressed the whole thing was turning me into, he gave up and asked me to keep it. He vowed to be my baby’s godfather and turn him into the best rogue hunter.

He still has no clue that Dominic is a rogue Alpha. I didn’t tell him. Keeping it a secret is the best thing for all of us. But it still eats me up. Every-day.

It’s been four years with my son, and Noah being the best friend anyone can have. Today, he took us to the park to have some fun and relax. It’s night now and we wanted to return home, but then the rain started and now we’re stuck in a building, waiting for it to stop.

“Alright. I’ll go check it out. Fuck!” Noah ends the call, throwing a hard fist on the wall.

“What happened?” I ask, worried by how distressed he looks. He takes a deep breath, rubbing at his sore knuckles.

“They killed the hunters. All fifty of them. Shred to pieces.”

“What?” I feel goosebumps crawl on my skin by the tragic news. “Who killed them?”

“I got no idea. It can’t be rogues. That land is a no-man’s territory. Rogues have no right to kill anyone on that land.”

Hearing rogues kickstarts my heart as I think of Dominic. It’s really conflicting praying Noah and the other hunters get to end the cursed existence of rogues. But at the same time, hoping he wouldn’t kill Dominic. But then, not killing Dominic means the rogues are still gonna be inexistence and our kind are still in danger.

But then killing him…Nah, I can’t even imagine how that’s gonna make me feel. So yeah, I’m kinda stuck in the middle of all this mess.

“I’m going over there right now, you should take Riize home once the rain lets off—”

“Can I come with you?” I chip in, making him stop talking. “Please?”

He smiles a bit. “I would love that, but it would be dangerous for you to be out there. I don’t want anything bad to happen to you…”

“Nothing bad will happen to me. I got you to watch my back, right?” I flash him a playful wink and he chuckles.

“Always.” He replies firmly. “Well, I’ll have to call Nanny Tessa and have her come take Rizze.”

He calls her and she arrives minutes later, taking our stuff and carrying Riize home. Noah and I head to the no-man’s territory, taking the woods and running in our wolf form.

We get to the red line tracks that show the start of the land and we morph back to our human form. Panic fills me as the traces of blood fill the place. We silently scope the area, finding the carcass of the wolf hunters.

I feel a pit of sadness at their pathetic. Whoever did this surely has no heart.

Rushed foot movements and growls are distant, causing me to gasp. I grab his hand reflectively.

“What’s wrong?” He asks, noticing how frightening I’m getting. He holds my hand, giving me a warm squeeze. “Are you alright?”

“Yes. I thought I heard voices- Noah!” I shriek as he gets jumped on out of the blue by a rogue werewolf. I get pushed by huge claws, my back hits hard against the tree, and I fall to the ground, squirming in pain.

Noah is struggling to stand and morph into his wolf form so he can match their strength but they are two of them, clawing at him viciously, and keeping him on the ground. I wanna help him but I’m too in pain to. In that helpless second, I find my heart calling out to the only man I know who can save us right now.

Dominic.

Dominic’s pov

I feel my nerves chill as the cold water from the shower crashes heavily on my body. Blood stains from my brawl with those hunters mix with the water as they drop on the floor.

It's been one hell of a crazy day. Going over to the no-man’s territory, spotting those hunters, and killing them, it’s been more of a hellish day.

And no, they didn’t start the fight. I just had to kill them because I wanna possess that territory. Also because my wolf has been in a crazy funk that makes me go unhinged and kill the closest thing next to me.

No amount of distraction has been able to heal my wolf ever since I got separated from Kristine. I’m just as messed up as my wolf too. We both miss our mate and we both find life unbearable without her.

Stepping out of the bathroom, I head to my room. I got dressed and headed outside to see if the men who were guarding the borders had returned.

The few men in the hallway are whispering and I spot Jake with them. He sees me and hurries over, with his brows creased.

“What’s the matter?” I ask tautly.

“The men spotted a rogue hunter at the border.”

“Tell everyone to stand guard. The man could be just moving along. But if he does seem like a threat, then they have the permission to kill him.” I reply dismissively. But Jake doesn’t budge. He still looks very worried.

“Is there something else you wanna tell me?” I ask.

He’s hesitant a bit and then shows me the screen of his phone. “The men took pictures of the rogue hunter. He’s with a female. Someone we both know very well.”

I feel blood drain from my face as my shaky hands grab his phone, staring at the girl I’ve been missing every day for the last four years.

“What should the men do now? I think they already started a fight with her and her escort.”

My teeth clench. “Tell them that if anyone lays a finger on her, I’ll have them torn into pieces. I swear to the goddess.”
