Chapter 3

The first thing Christina did when she returned was to come and see me.

At that time, David and I were still married, and I naively believed that David wouldn't waver.

She was indeed very beautiful, wearing a light-colored dress and nude high heels.

Standing before me, she smiled and said:

"It's no wonder David likes you. You really do look like me."

"I heard from friends that you want to have a child with him."

"Do you know why he doesn't want to?"

"Because he made a promise to me that he would only have children with me."

"And I also heard you're known as the ‘Red Rose' of New York. How come you're wearing a white dress now?"

Christina looked at me with a nonchalant smile and said, "Could it be that he likes you in white dresses?"

I dismissed her with a scornful smile. "This white dress I'm wearing was chosen by him personally and cost a fortune."

"And yours is a fake."

Christina's face turned pale as she was exposed.

She left in a huff, and afterward, she ratted on me to David.

David told me, "Tina just came back; there's no need to make things difficult for her."

I replied, "I'm not making things difficult. I'm simply stating the truth. What she's wearing is indeed a fake."

David's face darkened, and he struggled to respond.

Seeing his angry expression reminded me of Christina's haughty demeanor earlier in the day.

I couldn't help but ask him, "Why does Christina have a key to our house?"

David paused for a moment before saying, "I grew up with her. Now that she's back, she's unfamiliar with the city. If she needs anything, I thought you could help her."

His answer made my heart tremble.

I couldn't help but laugh inwardly. She was in her twenties; what could she possibly not understand?

But I held back and didn't question him further.

After that day, David never returned home.

Previously, no matter how late he was out on business, he always came home. If it was raining or thundering, he would hurry back from the office to be by my side.

But now, he never came home, didn't have time to go shopping with me, and didn't carefully select clothes for me.

Meanwhile, money was continuously withdrawn from our joint bank account.

But it wasn't me spending it.

In my phone's transaction records were expensive dresses and coats.

Even when I told him I had a fever and asked if he could accompany me to the hospital to get an IV, he told me he was too busy at work to take care of me.

By then, I probably already knew who he was spending his time with.

Once, I couldn't hold back any longer and decided to go to the company to find David.

There, in the assistant's office, I encountered Christina, dressed in the latest limited-edition dress.

I knew the price of that dress; it was listed at ninety thousand dollars on the official website.

The payment records were on my phone.

She scrutinized me from top to bottom before her gaze settled on the gold bracelet on my wrist.

David had given me that bracelet before we married, saying it was a gift from his grandmother to his mother, and now, as he was marrying me, he wanted me to wear it.

Christina moved closer and reached for my bracelet.

I quickly pulled my hand away, making her miss.

She reached for it again, and I swatted her hand away, warning her, "Don't touch me."

The sound of the slap caught David's attention. He stormed out of his office, stepping between Christina and me with anger blazing in his eyes.

Christina clung to David's arm, feigning innocence and standing in between us.

Her eyes immediately welled with tears as she looked up at David and said, "It's fine, I'm okay."

I pressed my lips together. I hadn't done anything to her; what could be wrong?

After Christina finished speaking, David's face darkened. He turned to Christina and asked me, "What exactly happened?"

Before I could respond, Christina quickly interjected, "Amy, it's my fault. I shouldn't have looked at your bracelet."

"Amy, it's my fault. I was greedy."

"But I truly meant no harm. I just wanted to take a look."

"My background isn't as good as yours, Amy, so I've never seen such fine things."

I sighed.

Christina had studied economics and management; perhaps it was mistake. With her acting skills, entering the entertainment industry should be a piece of cake.

David looked at my bracelet, approaching me with his imposing height of six feet three inches.

But when he touched my hand, his touch was gentle. He carefully lifted my hand, lightly running his fingers over the bracelet, and began to pull it down my wrist.

The bracelet caught on my joints, and only I knew how much it hurt.

I pulled my hand away forcefully, and as I raised my hand to slap David, I stopped myself.

In the end, I couldn't bring myself to do it.

David, however, showed no remorse. He said, "Amy, it's just a bracelet. Don't make a fuss over it."

I was deeply disappointed; ten years of feelings had gone to waste.

With tears in my eyes, I asked him, "Why?"

He said, "Amy, I've given you everything you wanted over the past ten years."

"I've never failed to provide you with the best."

"But Christina hasn't had the same. She's endured so much, and I owe her."

I was heartbroken, but I couldn't cry anymore. Instead, I was angered to the point of laughter.

"Fine."

"Very well."

I raised my hand and slammed it onto the office desk.

The gold bracelet shattered into pieces and fell to the ground.

"If you want it, pick it up yourself."

With no more words, I turned and left his company.

Sure enough, a few days later, I received his divorce papers.
