Chapter 4 Amelia's POV

I wanted to steal the show, and I made sure I did.

It was the first step to my plan. I wanted to get not only Eliot’s attention or the alphas present, but the entire crowd. I wanted to make Lydia feel threatened. To the other wolves it might not be a problem but to she-wolves especially, the ones that are to be mated to someone like an alpha that has so many wolves to his disposal, it is a problem.

Immediately I came inside the ball room, a lot of wolves were asking me for a dance. I felt amazed. It was the first time I had a choice but this time I had to be very precise. My fate lies on this very ball.

None of the wolves asking for my hand caught my attention. I needed to get Eliot’s attention and that is by dancing with alpha, especially one higher than him. I gave one of the beta’s my hand first; the strongest one I could sense. I didn’t want anyone to discover my plan so I took it nice and easy. He was kind enough to take me to the middle of the dance floor. He was trying to build a conversion but honestly, I don't care. I was just looking around for a particular alpha that I heard will be in attendance. Immediately the music was over I smiled and left to look for Karla. She was by the counter refilling drinks. I went there with a glass.

“You said he will be here.” I told her in a whisper.

“He is here. I saw him during dinner. You just have to look.” She told me.

I went toward the crowd and stood by the side so that the crowd could notice me. There is only one person, Jackson Kane, alpha of the blood moon pack. I looked round but I could see him and at my side, I saw another wolf coming towards me. Immediately left the ball. I couldn’t risk dancing with another person who wasn’t what I wanted. I took a drink from a nearby waiter and went upstairs. I went to the balcony to think of what to do. I held the rod tight to pull myself together. It was like all was not going well. I couldn’t make it more clear to myself that if this didn't work, I might as well die.

“Lady, are you okay?” I heard someone say from behind.

I turned out of shock and held my chest.

“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.” The man said and came closer. “Are you okay?” he asked. I could hear a bit of concern in his voice.

“Yes, I am fine. I didn’t just expect anyone to come here.” I said and raised my head. I looked at him and his face took my breath away. He was so handsome but most importantly, I could sense he wasn’t ordinary. There was something unique about him.

“What is a pretty she-wolf like you doing out her all alone.” He said with a smile. His teeth were so white and his smile was so elegant.

“I am looking for a certain alpha. I want him to ask me for a dance.” I said. I saw his eyebrows rise with doubt and surprise. He put his hand behind him.

“Why, if I may ask?”

“It’s complicated.”

“Try me.”

I looked at him and he smiled.

“Well, he is the only one who can help me find the people I am looking for. I heard he is the most powerful alpha and is well gifted and connected. So, I need him.” For some reason I trusted this person even if I should not. But he seems calm and powerful.

“So, what are you doing here? You are meant to be downstairs dancing with him” he smiled at me.

“I know that.” I said and rolled my eyes. “I looked for him everywhere but I couldn’t find him. I was told he was going to be present at this party that is why I bothered to come.” I told him. I was disappointed.

“And what might be this alpha’s name?” he asked me.

I was a little bit hesitant. I wasn’t sure if I should tell him. But then I thought about it, what if he knew him or what if I could reach him through him? Besides I couldn’t sense anything bad about him and my senses are never wrong.

“Jackson Kane.” I told him, “Jackson Kane. Alpha of blood moon pack.” . I could see a smile on his face but it immediately went away. He kept on nodding and that gave me some kind of hope that maybe he knows him personally. But he dashed my hopes. All he said was “Hmm” and I smiled. I just grunted and went downstairs.

I went down the stairs thinking. I was already to step down to the ballroom when I felt someone hold my hand. I turned and I saw the same man. This time he had his mask on.

“You want a dance, right? A dance you will get wolf.” He said with a small smile.

I didn’t know what happened to me. In this situation, I am meant to reject him or tell him to let me go but I found myself obeying. I looked into his eyes and they were so dark. It was amazing.

He took me to the center of the dance floor and we started dancing. I knew the dance steps by hand so I didn’t really need to count my steps. I looked into his eyes. They were so daring.

I looked around and there was one on the dance floor. It was strange. Why would they clear the dance floor for him? It should only be cleared for a couple of hours or someone powerful like Jackson Kane. Wait;

“Jackson Kane?” I asked.

“The one and only.” He replied.

I couldn’t believe it. I was actually dancing with Jackson Kane.

“You should have told me when we were upstairs.”

“What is the fun in that?” he asked me with a smirk. “You needed help with something and I came. That is what I always do.”

That made me chuckle. He spinned me around continuously and then held my waist. I found myself looking at him. My lips an inch away from his. His lips looked like cherry. We continued to dance.

“Why isn’t anyone on the dance floor with us? Are they afraid of you?” I asked. I didn’t just want to dance. I wanted to make an impression on the man to the extent he falls hard for me.

“Are you afraid of me?”

“Should I?” I asked back as we turned side by side following the music. He spinned me around and dropped me. Just when I saw about to fall, he held my waist and my leg exposed by the slit. We came back up looking at each other. The music stopped and we stopped dancing but we kept on looking at each other.

“That should get you what you want. I hope we meet again, wolf.” He said and bowed to me to end the dance. He let go of my hand which I didn’t notice he was holding till then and left. We both went opposite sides of the ballroom, as everyone clapped for us. It was the most beautiful experience I have ever had.

All eyes were on me. That is exactly what I wanted. I was sure Eliot would come after that and he did. One thing you know about the males is that whenever they host and someone better than them dances with the prettiest girl in the room, their dominance will feel threatened. All men were the same; human or wolf.

“I am the host; I should be afforded a dance, shouldn’t I?” he asked and brought out his hand for me to take. I looked at Lydia and the look on her face was priceless. I gave him my hand and we lead to the dance floor.

“What is your name? I have seen you before.” He asked as we danced.

“If you know my name, wouldn't that kill the fun alpha.” I answered.

“You sound really familiar, have we met?” he asked again. I became a bit scared. What if he recognizes me?

“I simply have one of those voices.” I told him. The music ended and he bowed.

“Love to see you again some time.” He said and left.

The party was going well. Eliot and his bride-to-be were giving their speech. I took a glass of champagne from one of the waiters and listened. God! It was so pathetic. Giving the fact he was only doing it to take over her pack in the first place.

I stood by the side and enjoyed the show while taking a sip of my champagne. Someone besides me gave me a letter. I looked at the man and I could sense he was a wolf, a beta to be precise. He gave me a note and said “He will be waiting for you” and left without me asking a question.

I opened the note and it read:

Midnight, first place we met. Join me for a drink. I will be waiting for you.
