After leaving St. Andrew's Hospital, I took a taxi to go home.
On the way, I saw many loving couples walking out of the maternity ward with happy smiles on their faces.
I felt like a loser. I was pregnant with the child of the man I loved, and this man loved my sister.
That year when he held my hand and made a promise, I believed him.
He said, "When I grow up, I want to marry you."
Now Carter did marry me, but he didn't really mean it. He was just forced to marry me by his grandfather.
I got home and had just closed the door when the sound of a car engine came from outside.
"Selena!"
It was Carter's voice.
His voice sounded very irritable and angry. As soon as he saw me, he immediately reached out and clutched me by the collar, "You went to see Vanessa again?"
I could probably guess that Vanessa had told him off, which was what she called a surprise. I didn't do anything wrong.
I answered frankly, "Yes, but ......"
"Selena, you vicious bitch!"
Carter shoved me hard, glaring at me in hatred and disgust.
"You told Vanessa that you would never divorce me unless she died, didn’t you!"
I was shocked. I didn't say that at all. Vanessa slandered me!
"That's not true, Carter, I ......"
I was just about to explain when Carter suddenly squeezed my wrist and threw me viciously toward the sofa.
I suddenly understood what he was trying to do. I was cared.
I immediately covered my stomach and begged for mercy, "Don't do that, Carter, don't ......"
Carter's actions were so rude that I had never seen such a violent and grim side to him and was overwhelmed by his fear.
But Carter didn't give me a chance to escape.
"You want Vanessa dead? No way! As long as I'm here, you're not going to hurt her, you bitch!" He threatened as he ripped off my clothes and choked me, "Even if Vanessa has to die, I'll kill you first!"
As he said that, the last of my clothes were ripped off me and thrown aside. He was hurting me. I couldn't help but cry out in pain.
"No, Carter, don't, I'm in pain ......"
"You know it hurts too?" Carter didn't stop his violent movements that kept torturing me, "You don't know how much Vanessa and I hurt! Do you know how much I want to kill you, you liar!"
I didn’t know that Carter hated me so much.
Tears silently flowed down my cheeks as I lay numbly on the couch, suffering from all the pain Carter had caused me.
I didn't know how long it took, but I passed out from the pain. I had a long dream. I dreamed of that beautiful summer day twelve years ago.
The sunny beach, and the balsam fir tree.
That was the first time I met Carter. He was sitting on a big reef. Although he was only twelve years old at the time, he was tall and handsome.
He looked so unhappy.
I carefully walked over and handed him one of the shells I had just picked up.
"Hey, this is for you. I hope you will be happy every day."
Little Carter looked at me for a long time, full of defensiveness. I did not put down my hand, still smiling at him. Eventually he took my shell.
The next day, I returned to that beach. Carter showed up, and handed me a cup of milk tea, saying it was a return gift.
That was the first time I had milk tea.
Since that day, Carter and I would play on that beach every day.
One day, I accidentally cut my foot by a glass shard on the beach. Carter squatted down to carry me on his back.
I lay on his back, my heart beating fast, and wrapped my arms around Carter's neck.
"Carter, I want to... I want to be with you forever and play with you every day."
Carter answered me without thinking, "Okay. When I grow up, I will marry you. You will be my bride, then we can play together forever."
But now he had forgotten everything. He was in love with someone else.
I woke up, and opened my eyes. I saw Vanessa's beautiful face with anger and jealous.
Why would Vanessa be jealous of me?
She stole the man I loved. My beloved man always defends her.
"Selena, you're the most disgusting woman I've ever seen. I can’t believe you sneaked into the hospital in this way!"
I looked up and around, and this was indeed the hospital.
How did I end up in a hospital? Wasn't I on the couch?
Thinking about what had happened earlier, I finally understood what Vanessa was jealous of.
I remembered. While Carter and I were having sex, I passed out. That’s why I was at the hospital.
Vanessa didn't seem to know why Carter was so rough with me. She only knew that I had sex with Carter. I felt doubly sarcastic inside, but raised a triumphant smile.
"You bitch, what are you smiling at?"
At the sight of my smile, Vanessa's face was distorted.
"Why can't I smile?" I raised my chin proudly, "Carter and I are married. How can you call it disgusting? We were just having sex."
"Selena, you're such a bitch!"
She said and wanted to slap me.
I immediately retorted, "I'm no more cheap and disgusting than you are. After all, you drugged Carter so you could marry him. Wouldn't he have slept with you when he was sober?"
Vanessa's expression froze for a moment, but soon, she put on a smug look again.
"What are you talking about? Of course he'll sleep with me. He's always very passionate and gentle when we make love. Otherwise, what do you think is the reason he leaves you at home every night?"
After that, Vanessa threw an agreement at me and said condescendingly, "This is the divorce agreement Carter asked me to give you, sign it as soon as possible. He no longer wants to see you walking around in front of him."
I froze when I saw the divorce papers.
I couldn’t believe it. Carter still wanted to divorce me.
I seemed to have instantly fallen into an ice cellar. I was painful.
I had expected this day to come, but I just didn't think it would come so soon.
I lost, lost very thoroughly.
Seeing my pale face, Vanessa laughed rampantly.
"Selena, look in the mirror, look at your ugly face, Carter could never fall in love with a woman like you! He told me more than once that you are the most disgusting, shameless woman he has ever seen, and that marrying you is the biggest stain on his life!"
Seeing that I never retorted, Vanessa became even more arrogant.
"You shameless bitch, sign the papers and get out of New York immediately!"
I sneered, picked up the divorce agreement, tore it up, and threw it at Vanessa's face.
Vanessa obviously didn’t see that coming. She screamed in shock.
"Divorce? Don't even think about it!" I looked at Vanessa, "Didn't you slander me by saying that I would never divorce Carter until you were dead? Since you are still alive, I couldn’t possibly divorce him."
