Chapter four
The commanding authority in his tone sends shivers through my already confused mind.
"Go on and take the contraceptive pill while I watch you," he commanded, his words carrying authority which left me paralyzed by the unexpected turn of events.
"Please don't do this to me," I begged, my voice trembling with a mixture of fear and disbelief.
"Amelia, don't waste my time. Do it fast and take the contraceptive pill immediately while I watch you," he snapped, his anger fueling the urgency of his command.
Tears flowed down my cheeks as I reluctantly took the contraceptive pill. Xavier's eyes bore into me, his gaze burning through mine as I complied.
Once the pill was in my mouth, Xavier left the room immediately, leaving me alone on the floor.
I was broken, silent sobs escaped my trembling lips.
I stood up, my mind in restlessness. I ran to the bathroom immediately, and I forced myself to vomit, removing the contraceptive pill from my body system.
As I stood there, gasping for breath, I wouldn't kill my seed, before it formed. I can't let Xavier decide whatever he wants, I also have a will to reclaim control over my own body and choices.
Maybe if I got pregnant, Xavier would look at me like he looks at Aurora and appreciate me more, maybe he would be happy if I carried his heir.
Maybe he would love me just the way I am, I have a little hope, and I pray that I get pregnant.
***
Two weeks had passed, and the office environment had become a sad battlefield for me. Aurora has been bullying me since I got married to Xavier, but Xavier wouldn't believe anything I said to him. She treats me unfairly
No matter how hard I tried to prove my innocence, Xavier remained unconvinced, but rather convinced by her Aurora words only.
I entered my office before I could even take a seat, Aurora barged in, a file in her hand. The audacity with which she treated me as if I were a subordinate in my husband's own company left me stunned.
"Take this file and destroy it," she commanded, her tone dripping with arrogance. The request to destroy the file seemed unimportant compared to the power struggle that grew within the office walls.
"Aurora, who are you to give me work to do? You can't tell me what to do in my husband's company," I retorted sternly, the frustration evident in my voice.
"Are you telling me that I can't tell you what to do? Remember that I have a place in Xavier's heart, and you are nothing to him," she said truthfully.
I blinked back a moment of disbelief because it was the truth that she was saying. No matter what I do, Xavier will never love me, or believe anything I say.
I don't have a day again in the company, it looks like Aurora's plans were succeeding.
The acknowledgement that Xavier favoured Aurora over mine left me feeling powerless and vulnerable.
Aurora's parting words echoed in the room, leaving me in a state of restlessness. "You better attend to this unwanted document, or else I will report you to Xavier. You know he believes my word more than yours," she declared, her words carrying a reminder of the power she held over my seemingly crumbling world. With that, she walked out of my office.
This is what I have faced and endured from Aurora since I became Mrs Bennett. She bullies me and treats me like she bears hatred towards me, or maybe she does because she has been hurting ever since I married Xavier.
Left with no other options, I attended to the unwanted documents. I won't want Xavier to barge into the office because Aurora told him a lie.
I put the files into the shredder one by one.
"What are you doing?" Dwayne's voice pierced through the air as he saw me in the act of destroying the files. his gaze fixated on the file I was feeding into the shredder.
"Please leave me alone. Why do you always want to help me? It only makes me feel so pathetic," I responded with raw honesty.
But Dwayne, persistent and genuine in his intentions, wasn't ready to let me succumb to my despair. "Wait, stop destroying these files," he insisted, his tone serious and urgent.
I was confused by his sudden tone, I halted from destroying the files, watching Dwayne closely as his eyes scanned the contents of the file. The seriousness of the situation became noticeable in his reaction.
"These files are important documents in the company. Who gave you these files? Why are you destroying important documents?" Dwayne asked me, and it was then it dawned on me that something was fishy. I cross-checked the file in my hands and saw, to my horror, that the files indeed contained important information about the company's operations.
It dawned on me that I had once again fallen victim to Aurora's plans. The realization left me feeling betrayed and used.
Just then, Xavier entered my office. Beside him, Aurora displays pretentious innocence.
"She is with the files. I tried to stop her, but she insisted on destroying the documents," Aurora accused, her voice a calculated blend of concern and betrayal. Her performance was convincing, a masterful display of manipulation.
Her words were to cast me as the villain in the carefully constructed narrative that she created.
Xavier's eyes bore into me with a mix of anger and disappointment as he immediately checked the scattered remains of the destroyed documents. He stares at me angrily, balling his fist.
"How could you, Amelia?" Xavier's voice cut through the silence, he was accusing me without hearing my side of the story.
The evidence before him seemed certain, serious evidence that shows that I did it indeed.
Aurora smirked at me with a victorious smirk on her face, I am a victim of Aurora's cunning plans.
