#Chapter1
Hey, I'm Nicole Balvanera, but everyone calls me Nikki. I'm 17 years old, fair-skinned, with brown hair and blue eyes. I'm not very tall, but I have a muscular body and look like I'm 19. I live in Mexico. After my mother's death, I changed a lot. I'm no longer the same girl I was when my mom was alive. My dad changed too; he's always closed off in his work.
So, we moved to New York to start a new life, leaving everything behind - my friends, the people I knew, and even my ex-boyfriend who turned out to be a jerk.
I wake up because someone's knocking on my bedroom door.
Nikki - Who is it?
Joseph - Nikki, get up. You'll be late for your first day of classes.
Nikki - I'm coming. (I say with annoyance)
With very little enthusiasm, I get out of bed and head to the bathroom. After a shower, I come out in 10 minutes, put on my outfit - ripped black jeans, a black top, a studded metal belt, and many bracelets.
I dyed my hair after my mom's death. It has three colors - blue at the top, some white highlights, and my natural shade. I also have three tattoo marks and a few piercings - in my belly button, nose, and some earrings on my ear. You can probably imagine the look on my dad's face when he saw me. Luckily, he didn't see the two tattoos; otherwise, he'd have blown a fuse.
I leave my room, ready with my backpack, but I check to make sure I have everything - phone, wallet, and car keys. I go down the stairs and into the kitchen to say goodbye to my father. He's having breakfast and dressed in his doctor's outfit. Yes, he's a doctor, and not just any doctor, the best in the country.
Nikki - I'm leaving, Dad. (He looks up to see me)
Joseph - Okay.
I turn to leave when my dad speaks.
Joseph - Nikki, remember that after school, you have gym class. I enrolled you.
I turn back and look him in the eyes.
Nikki - What?
Joseph - You heard correctly. Unless I need to remind you of what you did.
Nikki - Don't I have a choice?
Joseph - There's one option. At my friend's school, where you'll be going, there's a cheerleading squad. You can join them.
Nikki - Can I have a chance to think about it?
Joseph - While you think, you'll go to your training today without a fuss.
I turn around annoyed, leave the house, and get into my car. As I drive, I'm venting my frustration. He knows I quit gymnastics after Mom died. Well, he knows why, but I won't get into the details now. I'll tell you more about it later.
Without realizing it, I arrive at the dreaded school. I search for a parking spot, find one, park, and get out of the car with my backpack. I lock the car, stand at the entrance, let out a sigh, and exhale sharply.
Alright, Nikki, time to go in. I enter the school, feeling many eyes on me. I ignore them and keep walking until I reach the principal's office. Upon arrival, I knock on the door and hear a voice say, "Come in." I enter and see an older gentleman.
Director - Good morning, young lady. You must be Nicole Balvanera.
Nikki - Yes, sir.
Director - Here are your schedules.
I take the sheet with my assigned classes, and I notice a symbol (?) next to Physical Education.
Nikki - Excuse me, why is there a symbol next to Physical Education?
Director - Your father informed us that you would be choosing your class. Anything else?
Nikki - No, thank you.
Director - Let's head to your classroom.
I pack my things and leave with the principal. We walk to the classroom, and when we arrive, he goes in while I stay outside.
EDWIN
Hey, I'm Edwin. I'm a werewolf, 300 years old in wolf years, but I look 22 to humans. I'm the future Alpha of my pack. I haven't found my mate yet, but I'm not worried. As my parents say, she might not have been born yet. In the meantime, I can have some fun with other girls, as the Luna position is reserved for my mate. As for my appearance, I'm tall - 6'2'', with brown eyes and brown hair. I'm heavily tattooed and have a few nose piercings.
I wake up to my cellphone alarm, turn it off, and head to the bathroom. After a shower, I wrap a towel around my waist and go to my closet. I put on my casual attire - jeans and a t-shirt. Finally, I grab my American football team jacket, essential for my football practices. Ready to go, I head downstairs to the kitchen, where I find my dad sitting at the table.
Edwin - Good morning, Dad.
Matta - Good morning, son. Remember, today is the first day of class for my friend's daughter.
Speaking of girls, my dad told me yesterday that my friend's daughter from years ago will be joining my school. He wants me to behave.
Edwin - Yes, Dad.
My mom serves breakfast. I eat, finish, get up from the table, say goodbye to my parents, and grab my backpack. Outside the house, my beta, his girlfriend, and my omega are waiting.
Edwin - Good morning, guys. Hey, Judith.
Judith - Good morning, Alpha.
Agustín - Good morning, Edwin.
Pedro - Good morning, Alpha.
Only my beta can call me by my name. Each of us gets into our cars, and I drive to school. When I arrive, I notice a car I've never seen before. I park next to it and get out. I start inspecting the car; the plates are local. While I'm checking out the car, the guys come to my side.
Agustín - What's so interesting about this car, Edwin?
Edwin - This car has never been here before.
Pedro - Alpha, could it be the new girl's?
Edwin - It's possible. Let's head to class.
We enter the school, and I feel many eyes on me, especially from girls giving me appreciative glances. As I walk to my classroom, I bump into Roxana. She's the cheerleading captain, the kind of girl every guy would want, but not me. However, to others, she and I make a good-looking couple. We're both popular, attractive, and captains after all.
But she's not the girl of my dreams. Yes, you heard it right - I've been dreaming about a girl for the past few months. I can't see her face; I only see her hair - blue, blonde, and brown.
Roxana - Hey handsome, guys, Judith.
Edwin - Hi, Roxana. (with annoyance)
Judith - Hi, Rox.
We all head to the classroom. I take my seat, as do the others. Everyone comes in, and soon, the teacher arrives.
(Beta Agustín is muscular like me, with green eyes, fair skin, and a nose ring.)
(Omega Pedro is younger than Agustín and me, fair-skinned, blue eyes, a bit muscular, and the same height as Agustín.)
(Roxana, the cheerleading captain, is the pretty and popular girl with grey eyes, blonde hair, fair skin, a perfect body, and quite a large bust. She's highly competitive and always aims to be number one in everything, but she's not the sharpest tool in the shed.)
(Judith, Agustín's girlfriend and mate, is a cheerleader. She's short, slender, with good curves, blue eyes, blonde-brown hair, and a beauty mark near her lip. She's a kind and tender girl.)
