Chapter 2 Who's He

TI 1.2k words

Christina straightened up immediately and answered offhand, "There's nothing to say. He doesn't love me. He's going to marry the one he loves. “

"He’s going yo get married? He doesn't love you? “

Christina's heart ached, her eyes averted, her head slightly tilted, and she did not answer his questions.

The answer didn't satisfy Emond, even more than he had expected.

They lived together for two years. He's no match for a man who doesn't love her?

Emond forced Christina to look at him in the eye. Christina couldn't help but stare at Emond and nod her head. "Well, he's divorcing his wife when the woman he loves comes back."

Emond heard this and got even angrier.

"He's going to get married? And now you're getting a divorce with me and wanting to marry someone like this? What's so good about a man like this that you deserve to like him for so many years? Why do you still want to be with him? You're not a very good judge of men."

Christina nodded. "I think so."

But unfortunately she's lost her mind.

From the first time I saw him, I’ve already loved him.

It's been ten years, and I can't change it, unless I replace my heart.

"It is you that the one I love, Emond, do you know about that?" Christina said silently in her mind.

Emond looked at her, seeing that she was silent, and suddenly said, "Christina."

"Huh?"

"Nothing."

Emond left quickly.

He wondered if he was suffering from another curse, and it flashed through his mind that the man was his own delusion.

He shook his head and dismissed the outrageous idea from his mind.

They've only known each other for four years. It's not the same amount of time as that guy. It's not him!

Christina returned to her room and threw the pregnancy test form into a ball into the trash can. After three seconds of silence, she quickly turned it out, picked it out, smoothed out the wrinkles, carefully looked at the blurred image on it, and carefully tucked it in the book and hid it.

Christina stroked her stomach with her hand. There was a life in it, but instead of being blessed, it came at a very bad time.

She lay in bed and fell into a deep sleep, haunted by nightmares, until the phone rang.

"Hello~" The dream was so real that the fear had not dissipated, thus her voice was with a tremble.

"What's the matter? Did you have a nightmare?" Emond's concerned voice came, as gentle as ever.

"No, I just woke up." Christina hurriedly denied it.

Emond remembered she’s feeling sick in the morning and asked, "Are you still feeling sick? It's almost noon. Get up and eat something first. Aaron will bring you a gift later, and you can ask him to take you to the hospital."

"A gift? What kind of gift?"

"A gift for our anniversary. We are still married. I will remember my duty and will not forget it."

"Oh." Christina gave a little snort.

She was offended by Emond's behavior. Even after he asked for a divorce this morning, he's still so thoughtful about our anniversary gift.

Not just today, but any holiday, he would get her an expensive gift.

He is the perfect model husband.

Emond's voice came again, "It's not the one you chose. I changed it to something else. I'm sorry."

"It doesn't matter." Christina couldn't tell how it felt.

After she hung up, Aaron came to the door.

Aaron is Emond's assistant.

He held a fine gift box in his hand and handed it out respectfully.

She opened the box to find a sapphire necklace with her initials on it, and apparently it’s custom-made and expensive.

She put the necklace back in the box, pushed it aside, and ate her lunch quietly without looking at it again.

Last month, she went with him to an auction that included a silver pendant. Although it was a simple style, she liked it at first sight.

Emond noticed that she liked it and asked to buy it for her.

She was ashamed to spend his money. There was no reason for her to ask an indentured husband to spend so much money for her.

"Think of it as our anniversary present. If you are ashamed, you can send me a present in return." So she kept looking forward to it.

She had no idea that he could change even the gifts he had prepared in advance.

She really wasn't the one.

The gifts she had carefully prepared seemed unnecessary.

As Aaron left, Christina called to him, "I made a cake myself. Can you bring it to him for me?"

Aaron subconsciously said yes, but then remembered Emond's warning, "I don't eat sweets. If she asks you to bring me a cake, just refuse her."

"I'm sorry," he said. "Emond said he doesn't like sweets. You can keep it for yourself."

Christina was silent. After Aaron left, she took the cake and went back to the room.

It was as if she had been struck hard in the chest, and her repressed emotions broke down and tears fell.

Her cake is not sweet at all. She even didn't put any cream. She just put a layer of fruit on top, with just the aroma of fruit.

Christina wiped away her tears, opened the box, grabbed a large piece of cake and stuffed it into her mouth.

This cake has no sweetness at all!

The devastated Christina, acting like a lunatic, took another big mouthful of the cake, and in the middle of swallowing it, she choked and coughed.

She squirted the cake out of her mouth and made her tears fall again.

After a lull, she went on eating.

Salty tears mingled with the cake, and she ate it soulless mouthful by mouthful.

She finished off a box of cakes mechanically, and then she stopped.

She was then made worse by a wave of nausea and dizziness. She rushed to the bathroom and began to vomit, scratching her neck, face and body.

She forgot she was allergic to mangoes.

She doesn’t think anyone else in the world knows she's allergic to mangoes.

Mangoes are the best at this time of year, so she cut a whole one and put it on the cake with her gloves on.

Just now, she ate all the mangoes.

The gastric acid writhed in her stomach and retched a few times, emptying the contents of her stomach.

Christina sat down and cried.

She swore this is the last time she would do something stupid for Emond.

After blowing off steam, Christina stood up.

She stroked her stomach and murmured, "Baby, I'm sorry."

"Can you forgive mommy? Mommy vowed to protect you, please be strong!"

"Mommy loves you!"

Emond's call broke the conversation between her and the baby.

Christina calmly picked it up,"Hello."

"Do you like the present?"

"Yeah, thank you."

"You have fair skin that suits blue." After a pause, Emond added, "I'm not going back tonight. You......"

Emond was interrupted by Fanny's delicate voice, "What did she say, Emond? Our candlelight supper is already going to..."
